The former residence of Ye Jianying is located in Huxing village of Yanyang town in Mei county, which is 33 kilometers away from the downtown. Ye Jianying, the great Chinese proletarian revolutionist and one of the ten great marshals of China, was born in this house on 28th April 1897and had spent his early age right here.
The former residence is an ordinary farmhouse built from lime and soil, with 15 rooms, four of which belonged to the Ye’s. The yard is neat and quiet, surrounded by green fields and hills. The environment there is rather nice.
Ye Jianying is a revolutionist shaped in the process of the Chinese revolution. He repeatedly played a crucial role in crictical moments of revolution, such as leading the Nanchang Revolt on August 1st 1927, smashing Zhang Guotao’s conspiracy which aimed to split the Party and the Party’s Central Committee in 1935 and shattering the Gang of Four’ plot in 1976. Chairman Mao ever composed a verse to praise him, in which Marshal Ye was compared to the prudent Zhu Geliang and wise Lv Duan, both of whom were famous prime ministers in ancient feudal China.
In 1986, the great Marshal Ye passed away. In order to commemorate him and make his glorious thoughts and revolutional achievements forever inspire us, the local government rebuilt his former residence, which was listed as the cultural relic units under provincial protection in 1989.
