Pan Mountain Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs

    Pan Mountain Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs is located at the east foot of Pan Mountain in Ji County, Tianjin. It was under construction from 1956 to 1959 in honor of revolutionary martyrs who have sacrificed themselves in the Anti-Japanese War in eastern Hebei. It covers 20 hectares, mainly including the monument of revolutionary martyrs, the grave area of revolutionary martyrs, the memorial halls for both martyrs and traditional revolutionary education. The buildings are grand and magnificent with national flavors; in the cemetery, there is a large number of verdant pines and cypresses.
      Pan Mountain monument is built of white marble, the acreage of which is 1177 square meters with the height of 27.5 meters. 205 martyrs were buried in the grave area. Most are elderly Red Army soldiers and commanders of the Eighth Route Army. Furthermore, there are 32 subordinate tombs and 171 group tombs. Inscriptions written by Mao Zedong, the portraits, brief biographies and the directory of martyrs are also exhibited in the memorial hall of martyrs.
     In 1997, Pan Mountain Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs was named as one of the 100 national patriotism education bases by the Central Propaganda Department. In 2005, it was listed among the national 100 classic red tourism areas.
