As the only large-scale and comprehensive memorial hall in China that fully presents the history of Sino-Japan war, the memorial hall of China’s anti-Japan war is located in Wanping city, beside Lugouqiao, the place where Chinese full-scale anti-Japan war started. The memorial hall was built up and officially opened to the public on July 7th, 1987, the 50th anniversary of Lugouqiao Incident. It is now an important demonstration base for patriotism education in China and ranks among the best bases of patriotism education in Beijing.
Since it was established in 1987, the memorial hall has experienced several major improvements. Especially the large-scale reconstruction in 2005 made it take on an entirely new look now. The basic display arrangements have been changed three times. Now the floor space was expanded from 1320 square kilometers to more than 6000 square meters. Because of the social progress and deepened study of the history, the exhibition contents have become more scientific and objective. Also more and more new thoughts and technologies have been brought into the design of the exhibition. Apart from the basic daily exhibition, the memorial hall has mounted 34 exhibitions of special subjects since its opening, which not only complemented and deepened the daily exhibitions, but also further strengthened its function of patriotism education.
The memorial hall of China’s anti-Japan war is also an essential window for people from all over the world to understand the history of Sino-Japan war. So far, the total number of visitors from home and abroad has exceeded 15 million.
