Ranzhuang Tunnel Warfare Historical Site, located in Qingyuan County, 30 kilometers away from south of Baoding, is an important war site that witnessed Chinese people’s resistance against the Japanese invaders during the Second World War. Ranzhuang tunnel, a complete underground defensive system being perfected in the practice of wars, is an underground Great Wall that could be used to attack, hide, offend, defend, proceed or step back freely.
The memorial hall was built in memory of the tunnel warfare which was completed in August, 1959. The exhibition hall, covering an area of 960 square meters, displays a large number of valuable relics of tunnel warfare. Some modern media technology was applied to vividly present the war for the visitors.
The site and the memorial hall have received deep concerns from the Party and our people. It was listed among the first batch of important heritage sites under state protection by the State Council in March, 1961. In January, 1995 it was approved as the national youth education base by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League. In June, 1997, it became the national patriotism education base.
