    Liu Hulan Memorial is located in Liu Hulan Village (originally Yunzhou West Village) in Wenshui County, Shanxi Province, bordering on the Fenhe River in the east, and connecting Taifen Road in the west, with very wide and open terrain. The construction of the memorial began in the year of 1956 and was completed in 1957, when Liu Hulan has sacrificed for 10 years and when it was open to the public. Ever since, it has become a good classroom for educating the youths on revolutionary tradition.
      Covering a total area of 60,000 square meters, the memorial mainly consists of the monument with inscription by Chairman Mao, the exhibition room displaying Liu Hulan’s life experiences, seven martyrs’ memorial hall, tombs and the statue of Liu Hulan. In front of the monument, there is an inscription written by Chairman Mao - “A great life, and a glorious death”. These words are not only the lofty appraisal of Liu Hulan’s life, but also the glorious praise for all the revolutionary martyrs. The memorial displays 74 pieces of martyrs’ relics, as well as some documents such as paintings, photos about Liu Hulan’s life and handwritings that Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin wrote for the martyrs.
     The memorial is listed by the Propaganda Department of CPC as one of “the 100 national patriotism education demonstration bases”, also named by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League and Ministry of Civil Affairs as the “National Youth Education Base” and “Patriotism Education Base”. Besides, it is designated as the “Moral Education Base” and “National Defense Education Base” in Shanxi Province and Lv Liang Region.
