Marshal Xu Xiangqian, a loyal fighter for communism and a long-tested revolutionist and strategist of the proletariat, was one of the founders of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, as well as an outstanding leader of our party and our state. The former residence of marshal Xu Xiangqian is located in Yongan village in Wutai County’s Dongzhi town in Shanxi province, which is a small village and sits at the bank of Hutuo river.
Covering an area of 330 square meters, the former residence of Xu Xiangqian was built during the period of Qianlong, Jiaqing and Daoguang age in Qing dynasty. Solemnly and simply, in the residence there are the displays of Xu`s lifetime achievements and some inscriptions written by such old revolutionaries as Li Xianlian. The exhibition hall is separated into three parts according to three themes—the war, the life, and the national events, which vividly show the struggles of forerunners for the brightness and victory of revolution, demonstrating Xu`s great achievements as a vanguard of new China.
People in Shanxi Province are proud of Xu Xiangqian. In 1985, the former residence of General Xu was listed as the key cultural relic to be preserved as well as an education base of patriotism in Shanxi Province.
