Located in NO.1 Shanggangzi of Lingdong street in Hong district, Shenyang province, the Martyrs Cemetery of the War Resisting America and Aiding Korea was established in 1951. It was reconstructed on October 15, 1999, which was one of the ten great events of the spiritual civilization construction in Shenyang.
Occupying a commanding position, the cemetery covers an area of 240,000 square meters. Ascending the stairs, there is a pyramid–shaped monument built of granite with the height of 23-meter. The front of the monument is the inscriptions of “the soul of martyrs in the war resisting America and aiding Korea will be immortal”, written by Dong Biwu. Carved on the back of the monument are 471 funeral orations. On the cliff of the two sides (the east and the west) of the monument, large copper relieves were mounted to demonstrate the situation when the volunteers were fighting bravely. Behind the monument, there are cemeteries of martyrs, which were divided into three regions, the east one, the west one and the north one, in which 122 voluntary army martyrs were buried. There are large galleries and memorial halls in the southeast of the cemetery.
Since the establishment of the cemetery, about 100,000 international friends and people in all circles went there to show their condolence and to sweep tombs. The cemetery now has become an important base to promote education of patriotism and internationalism among teenagers.
