    Baxi Village is located in the east of Ruoergai County, Aba Qiang and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. With an average altitude of 2929 meters, this village is a predominantly agricultural Tibetan settlement. The word “Baxi” is transliterated from Tibetan Baerji, which means rich and happy.
Banyou Temple, 3 km away from Baxi Village, is the conference site where Red Army held the Baxi Meeting during the Long March. However, according to some research, the Baxi Emergency Meeting was actually held at Yanong Village.
      At the end of August, 1935, the Right Red Army, after crossing the Grasslands, reached Baxi Area through Banyou. From August 29 to September 8, the CPC Central Committee held several meetings in Baxi, requiring Zhang Guotao and his troops to move to the north. Zhang Guotao not only took against this order, but also attempted to harm the CPC Central Committee. On the evening of September 9, with Zhang Wentian and Bogu, Mao Zedong rushed to the encampment of the Third Red Army and held an emergency meeting. The meeting decided that they lead the Military Commission Garrison and the Third Red Army to move towards the north at the same night. And this meeting was what was called in history Baxi Emergency Meeting.
    During the Long March, the CPC Central Committee had two meetings at Banyou Temple, about respectively researching into education and publicity, and the working policies of the Right Red Army. It is recognized that Baxi Emergency Meeting was actually held in Yanong Village, not at Banyou Temple. Banyou Temple, nevertheless, is still an important base for patriotic education.
