Zhuokeji Meeting Site in Ma’erkang County is situated in the Zhoukeji Tusi Guanzhai (Zhuokeji chieftain stockade Village), 7km away from Ma’erkang County—the capital of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. In early July, 1935, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhe De led the Central Committee Authorities entered the Zhoukeji Village and later stationed there. They held the meeting of the Politburos Standing Committee, releasing Xia and Tao River Campaign Plan and deciding to take Zhuokeji area as the general rear place. The meeting also discussed and passed A Manifesto for Xikang, Tibetan and Xifan People. During the one-week-stay in the village, the Red Army carved and wrote a large number of slogans on walls, rocks and trees near the village.
Zhoukeji Village has been listed as the key national cultural protection site. It is a combination of residence, office, and defense tower, made of a stone five-story Tibetan habitation and a stone five-story watchtower.” Established in the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty, the existing buildings were mainly completed in 1918. The splendid buildings with courtyards and Tibetan style are impressive. Its unique Sino-Tibetan construction style enjoys the prestige domestically and internationally. It is praised as a pearl in the Oriental Architectural History by the international architects.
