Revolutionary Memorial of Xifeng Concentration Camp is the largest and highest-grade secret prison in the three concentration camps established by the Kuomintang’s Bureau of Investigation and Statistics of the Military Council during the period of Anti-Japanese War ( the other two are Wanglongmen Detention Center and Zhazidong Prison in Chongqing). Founded in November 1938 and abandoned in July 1946, this concentration camp imprisoned more than 1220 Communists and progressives, of which hundreds of revolutionists have sacrificed their lives here for the cause of national liberation.
Standing in the center of the square is the red stone-made group carving Zhonghunqu( Ode to Loyal Patriots), with the sculpture of revolutionary martyrs in the front and walls and shackles at the back. Undoubtedly, the walls and the shackles represent the monsters’ den, Xifeng Concentration Camp. In the exhibition hall, there are more than 80 valuable historical relics, the manuscript of Che Yaoxian’s autobiography, relics of Yang Hucheng and other revolutionary martyrs. The State Council listed this concentration camp as one of the national key cultural relic protection sites in 1988 for patriotic education. The unbending and dedicated revolutionary spirits of the CPC members and patriots for the human liberation will be recorded here forever.
