The memorial hall towers over the central Jilin revolutionary martyrs cemetery, echoing the majesty revolutionary martyrs monument. After the second expansion in 2008, the hall became the Chinese traditional courtyard-style architecture with the glazed-tile backing.
In the center of the square in front of the hall stands a bronzy statue of the anti-Japanese hero Wei Zhengmin in martial attire. The autobiography of North Korea Kim Il-sung the journey of the century writes, “he looks like a university professor, a scholar and thinking man. Without revolution, he might have contributed his whole life to science and writing. As a man, Wei Zhengmin is remarkable; as a revolutionist, he is excellent. His noble and magnificent life is worth commemorating.” On a par with Yang Jingyu, Wei Zhengmin was a general of anti-japan union, and one of the organizers and leaders in the Northeast Anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare. To our ruefulness, such a great and splendid hero returned to his hometown-- Tunliu county in Shanxi province--42 years after his death.
In 1983, MCA (Ministry of Civil Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China) awarded him a Revolutionary martyr certificate; in 1984, Kim Il-sung entrusted the North Korean ambassador stationed in china to visit Wei Zhengmin’s son in the branch school of Changzhi Iron and Steel Plant in Shanxi, and expressed Kim’s admiration and remembrance to the former leader and comrade. Wei’s fellow countrymen got to know his extraordinary experience and life until that day. Chen Yun, a proletarian revolutionist of older generation, made an inscription in 22th December, 1985 for the Northeast Anti-japan Union, “the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle of the martyrs in Anti-Japan Union is worth learning forever”. In the late 1935, Chen Yun attended the International Conference of Communist in Moscow of the Soviet Union; meanwhile, he met with Wei Zhengmin and some other Anti-Japan Union cadres to deliver the latest important instruction from the Party Central Committee, which became a major channel for the union to learn from Zunyi Conference and the Long March.
In the Wei Zhengmin Memorial Hall, opposite Wei’s statue displayed the inscriptions by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao.
