Zhu Rui, the founding figure of the Zhu Rui, founder of Artillery Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, was killed in action during the battle of Yixian in the Liaoshen Campaign on October 1, 1948, at the age of 43. He was the highest-ranking general to fall duringthe War of Liberation. In his early years, Zhu studied artillery in the Soviet Union and later volunteered to devote himself to the development of China’s artillery force. While serving as acting principal of the Yan’an Artillery School, he trained over one thousand key personnel and led teams to collect more than 700 artillery pieces, organizing them into 80 artillery companies. Under his leadership, the artillery forces in northeast China established a unified command system and expanded to more than 4,600 artillery pieces, playing a decisive role in campaigns such as the “Three Expeditions into Southern Manchuria.” Known as the “Father of Artillery,” Zhu was killed by a landmine at the moment of victory during the Yixian assault. In recognition of his enduring contributions, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China posthumously named the Northeast Artillery School he founded the “Zhu Rui Artillery School.”
