The Long March - A seven-character eight-line regulated verse

The Long March

The Red Army fears not the expedition of the Long MarchThousands of crags and torrents are barriers slight.

The Five Ridges wind like gentle ripplesAnd the majestic Wumeng is just like globules of clay.

Warm are the steep cliffs lapped by the waters of Golden SandCold are the iron chains spanning the Dadu River.

How I love Minshan mountain’s miles of snowThe Red Army march on, each face glowing.

The poem was written in October 1935 when Mao Tse-Tung had led the Chinese Central Red Army over Minshan Mountain, and the Long March was coming to an end. Looking back to the numerous difficulties and obstacles they had overcome over the past year, he was brimming with joy and pride.

It not only re-renderes the fighting course of the Red Army's winning the pass and killing the enemy in an admirably succinct way, but also artistically and vividly demonstrated the unyielding, heroic and indomitable courage and revolutionary optimism of the Red Army soldiers with the revolutionary passion.
