The Gunshots Over the Plain, published by The Writers Publisher in 1959, narrates the story of the Kuomintang troops' retreating without fighting in the early stage of War of Resistance Against Japan, which resulted in the Japanese aggressors’ quick occupation over the southern Hebei Province. The Japanese aggressors colluded with the local reactionary forces, oppressed and mutilated the local populace, and vainly attempted to extinguish the fire of the people's armed struggle led by the Communist Party by all means. Facing the cruel reality, the Communist Party led the local people to wage an indomitable struggle against the enemy under extremely harsh conditions. In the course of the struggle, they developed their own team and won the final victory.
