Su Yu, a proletarian revolutionist, a military strategist, and General ofPeople’s Liberation Army of China, ranked the first among the ten great generals of China.

Since he joined the CPC in 1927, Su devoted himself in the Nanchang Uprising and the previous Counter-Campaigns against “Encirclement and Suppression” afterwards. He was appointed as Deputy Commander of the New Fourth Army and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Headquarters in Northern Jiangsu during the Anti-Japanese War. Then he was deputed Chief of the First Division of the New Fourth Amy in 1941. Su mainly conducted the Huaihai Campaign, the Crossing-the-Yangtze-River Campaign, and the Shanghai Campaign.

Su Yu served as Great General of People’s Liberation Army of China and Vice Minister of National Defense in the Academy of Military Science for 26 years after the Liberation with outstanding contributions to developing Mao Zedong military thoughts and flourishing new military theories.
