Huang Kecheng was born into a poor farmer’s family in Yongxing county, Hunan province. He joined the CPC in 1925, and devoted himself to the Northern Expedition thereafter. In 1928 he led troops in Southern Hunan Revolt, following Zhu De and Chen Yi to Jinggang Mountains. Huang played his part as the Regimental Commander of the Red Army of Chinese Workers and Peasants, and then the Division Political Commissar, the Director of the Army Political Department, etc..

Huang had made outstanding achievements in the 3 years when he was Provincial Party Secretary. He adhered to the principle that Party should supervise its own conduct, and put great emphasis on the importance of disciplines as well as the inner unity. He also carried out an exemplary work on united front.

In 1952, Huang served as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the PLA and Political Commissar of the General Logistics Department. Upon his leaving, he expressed his love and loyalty to the Party in a word:“Remember the history perpetually and open the arms to welcome the future.”
