Zhang Guimei is the Party branch secretary and principal of Huaping women's high school in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, and also the president of Children's Welfare Home in Huaping County. For more than 40 years, she has been rooted in education in the frontier area, lighting up the lifelong dream of girls in the mountains with love and wisdom. She promoted the establishment of the first public free women's high school in China and has helped more than 1800 girls walk out of the mountains and into colleges, blocking the intergenerational transmission of poverty with education in the past 12 years.

Zhang Guimei (temporary name), a large-scaled modern Yunnan opera adapted from Zhang Guimei's deeds, has entered the rehearsal stage. Based on Zhang Guimei's advanced deeds, the play eulogizes the exemplary vanguard role played by the Communist Party members in poverty alleviation in border areas.
