Xu Yuanchong's Translation Theory and Practice

From the late 1970s to early 1980s, most translation theories of Xu Yuanchong are unsystematic, which mainly focused on translation itself, including translation standards, methods, skills, evaluation, etc. Meanwhile, Xu took the essence and purpose of translation into consideration and began to study literary translation from the philosophy perspective. Relatively speaking, Xu’s early theories, which were based on specific translation cases, tended to be incomprehensive, mainly focusing on translation standards and methodology.

Xu has devoted himself to translation in an integrated way since the beginning of 1990s. He then realized the ontological significance of literary translation so as to formulate translation theories in the end.
