Does Eating Iodized Salt Cause Excessive Iodine?

The National Day to Prevent Iodine Deficiency falls on May 15th. Professor Chen Zupei introduced that according to a result of a key project of the National Natural Science Fund recently completed by Tianjin Medical University, the current concentration of iodine dose added into salt is accordant with the physiological needs of people, which will not result in public health issues concerning excessive iodine intake caused by iodine salt consumption. There will be no adverse effects for our health given that the dose of salt is increased by five times.

It doesn’t mean that we advocate excessive iodine intake. Ten-fold dose of iodine will affect our health, and fifty-fold or hundred-fold dose will be definitely harmful to human health.
