A study, recently published on the journal Climate by American scientists, suggests that for several decades, owing to the continuous temperature increasing, the Arctic Ocean may experience its first ice-free summer in 2034.

The reduction of sea-ice in Arctic directly effects all kinds of creatures, either above or beneath the sea-ice. Besides, it also puts influences on global climate in many aspects, such as ocean current and atmospheric cycle.

There’s also something positive about the sea-ice reduction, for example, it shortens the shipping distance. Nonetheless, the economic benefits still can’t offset the loss caused by sea-ice melting.

Without the leapfrog technology development, such temperature rise will bring irreversible effects. Perhaps the ice-free summer in the Arctic is just a beginning.
