On March 18 and 19, 2021, a China-U.S. high-level strategic dialogue was held in Anchorage. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi received an interview with media upon the conclusion of the high-level strategic dialogue.
Wang Yi said the Chinese side comes to the dialogue with sincerity because dialogue is always better than confrontation. However, any dialogue has to be conducted with the spirits of mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences. The Chinese side also made it clear to the U.S. side that sovereignty and territorial integrity are major issues of principle. The U.S. side should not underestimate China's determination to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests, nor should it underestimate the Chinese people's will to safeguard national dignity and legitimate rights and interests. The Chinese side hopes that the two sides should respect each other's core interests. It is upon that basis that the door for U.S.-Sino dialogue will be always open.
