On March 18, a press conference on epidemic prevention and control was held in Guangzhou. Zhong Nanshan, head of the high-level expert group of the National Health Commission and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that he believed the origin of epidemic may have nothing to do with the place of the outbreak.

      At the conference, Zhong expressed that the prevention of COVID-19 cannot rely on herd immunity, because no evidence proved that once infected with it, people can be immunized for life, and production of effective vaccines is of great importance.

      Zhong stressed that infectious diseases spread anywhere, which requires joint action of all countries. Even one country takes the lead working out coronavirus pneumonia vaccine firstly, mass production still remains a problem. Therefore, the research and production of COVID-19 vaccine calls for the information exchange among countries.
